Our first small piece on the Clear Lake Pomo is actually an Opinion piece written by Calyton Duncan for the Lake County Record-Bee. This is in regards to an effort to change the Mascot of Kelseyville High School to "Indians". Kelsey was a squatter who in mainstream history is given credit for founding the town, along with his accomplice, a man by the name of Stone. These men committed atrocities on the Pomo Indigenous Americans.

Kelsey finally pushed the Pomo too far. Normlly a quiet and reverent people, they rose up and killed him at his home. As a result of this, the U.S. Army conducted ethnic cleansing in Lake, Sonoma and Mendocino counties. These depredations on the peaceful populace included massacres of entire villages.
