This panoramic view is taken in the Chalotaca Tribal area (see Milikan's Costanoan Tribal area Map), near Loma Prieta Peak and Mount Umumum (Hummingbird). You are looking SOUTH. Indian Canyon lies behind Fremont Peak. The Esselen, distinct from the Costanoan People, live in the Santa Lucia Mountains. Covered in this view are much of the indigenous areas affected by Santa Clara Mission, Mission San Juan Bautista, Mission Soledad, San Carlos Mission (Carmel - on the Monterey Peninsula) and Mission Santa Cruz and currently by Modern American Culture/Commerce/etc. Inherent in this is the assumption/presumption of the necessary elimination of indigenous society and natural habitat and wildlife.
